The Search Party – Simon Lelic

I just finished listening to The Search Party by Simon Lelic, and was captivated untill the very last word.

Murder mystery / thriller isn’t normally my jam, but since I’m currently writing a multiple POV novel, I figured I should also read some. I was not disappointed in the slightest by this novel.

The story revolves around D.I. Robin Fleet and the ongoing investigation into the disappearance, and possible murder, of a local teenage girl named Sadie. Her close knit group of friends are all on the suspects list, and it is Fleet’s job to determine who the killer could be, if any of them at all.

One boy over everyone else has more motive for murder, and the town has already made up their minds about him. The friends set out to prove that Sadie is still alive and form their own search party to go out into the woods where she was last known to be.

Mysterious things start to happen, their supplies are stolen, their phones disappear, and they all start to believe they are not the only ones camping out. Someone is determined to stop their search efforts and drive them back home.

Fear and doubt set in, truths are exposed, they turn on each other, and one of them ends up dead. I can’t say any more without giving away too much.

The audio book is narrated by Ben Arogundade, Fiona Button, Sacha Dhawan, Nicole Davies, Joe Gaminara, and my absolute favorite, Jack Rowan from the TV series Born to Kill and Noughts and Crosses.
